Τhe Choir "ORPHEUS" of
Tripolis was founded in March 1979. The
non-existence of a choir in the municipality of
Tripolis, since 1979, constituted a serious cultural
lack for the city’s tradition and history.
Therefore, nowadays ORPHEUS is one of the most vivid
and significant cultural elements of Tripolis and
participates effectively in many activities
(religious, cultural or spiritiual) of the
municipality of Tripolis and other arcadian
associations. The choir consists of the following
groups:
The Choir "ORPHEUS" displays a
rich musical activity. It has given more than 400
concerts in Greece and abroad, and has also
participated in international festivals for choral
music, organized either in Greece or in many other
countries such as Austria, Bulgaria, Serbia, Cyprus,
Hungary, Italy, Sicilia, France, Turkey, Germany.
The following concerts have
been established and are organized by the Choir
"ORPHEUS" every year:
- Christmas Concert: hymns
and carols originated from various Greek regions
and worldwide (from 1988 until today).
- Music Concert for the
celebration of the International Music Day
(21th June, from 2000 until today).
- International
Polyphonic Festival of Tripolis (from 2000
until today, all groups are participating).
- Children’s & Youth
Choir Festival in Tripolis (biennial, from 5
until today).
- Participation in Easter
Celebration.
Here are some of the top
moments of "ORPHEUS’s" 30 years history:
- Organization of the
4th Greek Choir’s Meeting (1982), under the
auspices of
the
Greek Ministry of Culture.
- Collaboration with other
cultural associations of Tripolis for the
organization of the
Arcadian Choir & Traditional dance Festival
(1986-1988).
- Active participation
(1988) in the performance and recording of the
pioneering music piece ‘Symphonic Orthodox
Liturgy’, by the composer Dimitrios Papapostolou.
The event was broadcasted by ERT S.A. (Hellenic
Broadcasting Corporation).
- Live performance
broadcasted by ERT S.A., of the ‘Troparion of
Kassianes’ (Easter 1990).
- Live performance at the
ancient theatre of Herodes Atticus in Athens,
for the promotion of the Arcadian Ideal (1998).
- Establishing and annual
organization of the International Choir
Festival of Tripolis (1992-1998).
- Participation in the
welcome celebration organised for the reception
of the Olympic Flame in Tegea (1996) and
in Tripolis (2004).
- Visit to His All
Holiness Ecumenic Patriarch Bartholomew in
Constantinople (2007), where the choir
performed the Divine Liturgy in the holy temple
of Saints Konstantinos and Heleni, and gave a
concert in honour of the Greek people of
Constantinople.
- Performance of the
catholic church symphonic piece “Stabat Mater
of G. B. Pergolesi and Ave Verum” of W.A
Motzart, by the Youth Choir of “ORPHEUS”,
accompanied by the symphonic orchestra of Athens
"SΙNFONIETTA", under the conduction of G.
Aravides (Athens/Tripolis, 2009).
The Choir “ORPHEUS” is a
member of the Hellenic Choir Union and the
Hellenic Choir Accosiation. It has received
the Bronze Medal by the Municipality of Tripolis and
has been awarded the Gold Cross of the city’s patron
saint apostles Paul and Demetrius.
The Choir "ORFEUS" of Tripolis
is a non-profit organization. It is financial
supported by the Prefecture of Arcadia, the
Municipality of Tripolis, and its regular members,
co-citizens, and sponsors, such as Hellenic
Telecommunications Organization (OTE S.A.).
